We have talked about Heavenly Father being a loving Father who wants all His children (us) to return to Him. So what about all of the billions who lived and died without knowing about the gospel of Jesus Christ?
That was also a part of Heavenly Father’s plan . He taught the gospel to His children from the very beginning.
Moses 5: 6-9 says, “And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me. And then the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth. Wherefore, thou shalt do all that thou doest in the name of the Son, and thou shalt repent and call upon God in the name of the Son forevermore. And in that day the Holy Ghost fell upon Adam, which beareth record of the Father and the Son, saying: I am the Only Begotten of the Father from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast fallen thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will.”
But people didn’t always pass along that knowledge and soon generations were left in the dark regarding their loving Father. Even when Christ came personally to the earth and many were converted to the truth, dissention followed all too quickly, and once again mankind turned its back to the light of the holy word of God, and turned to the darkness of unbelief.
Does that mean people are simply out of luck and will never get a chance to hear about Christ, and Father’s glorious plan?
No. Not only have there been numerous prophets, apostles, and missionaries throughout history going among the people to teach and defend God’s truth, but they have built up temples to the Lord wherein sacred promises are made and families are sealed together forever through the proper priesthood authority to act in God’s name.
These temples bless not only the living, but also the dead, for the living have the opportunity to perform these same sacred ordinances for those who have died without having the chance to hear and accept the gospel while they were alive upon the earth. And the dead (who are of course still alive as spiritual beings living in the spirit world while they await the resurrection to be reunited with their physical bodies) have the opportunity to hear the gospel in that spirit world. Then they can choose for themselves whether to accept or reject it.
Thus, Father’s great Plan of Happiness truly does apply to every one of His children. Christ leads that effort Himself and opened the way for all to hear, accept the truth, and receive all the blessings Heavenly Father has in store for them!
