There Is So Much More Your Father in Heaven Wants You to Know!

Do not be discouraged!  These are some of the wonderful messages we received last weekend from the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  What a spiritual feast it was!

I think the one thing that touched me the most was that the new Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, said that since he became the Prophet in January of this year, the thing he has learned most is “how willing the Lord is to reveal His will”.

What a marvelous blessing.  And it is for every one of us.

And I believe it was also he that said,

“There’s so much more your Father in Heaven wants you to know.”

“You will be given the knowledge and revelation you seek”

“I am optimistic about the future”

“[God] also knows about how the world is”.  We need to learn to receive revelation from God to help us.  It is not possible to survive spiritually without the Holy Ghost.

And, at the very end of General Conference, Pres. Nelson announced that we will be building 7 new temples.  And the final one he announced will be……..in Russia!  I was so moved by that announcement!

We are seeing prophecies coming to pass before our very eyes!  I turned to beloved hubby and said that when we were growing up, Russia was the enemy.  (It was the time of the Cold War.)

Without a moment’s hesitation, he replied, “But Russia was never the enemy, to God.”

Wow, powerful.  And so true!

Humbling, and amazing.  What wonders we are seeing.  🙂

My Church Gives Me Hope

I left Church today feeling incredibly happy and hopeful!  It was Ward Conference, so our Stake leaders were there with good messages of inspiration, encouragement, and hope.  It was absolutely wonderful!

In Sacrament meeting, Bishop Cox, the leader of our congregation, spoke about the influence of the Holy Ghost (or the Spirit of God) in our lives.  He talked about how meaningful personal, and family, prayers help us feel closer to Heavenly Father and we are able to feel the influence of the Holy Spirit better.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we learn that prayer is communicating with God.  Bishop Cox explained that prayer is not like ordering groceries over the phone and then hanging up.  It is also not a wish list.  We are seeking to know what His will is for us.  He loves us and knows what is best for us, what will help us grow, and how we can help Him further His work among His children.

Seeking to find out, and then striving to follow, Heavenly Father’s will is something we consistently try to do.  Setting aside our will takes practice and time.  Our natural inclination is to seek to do and fulfill our own desires and purposes.  But allowing our Beloved Father in Heaven to guide our lives is trusting in His infinite power and goodness.  And His plans for our lives are more glorious than we could ever fathom!

Then our President Horsley, our Stake President, pointed out that there is power in surrendering our will to God’s will, and in seeking God’s will.  We discipline ourselves, learning to give everything to Heavenly Father.  We can become close to Him.  He is not just a friend.  He has created worlds without number!  He is God.

And he talked about 2 kinds of faith.  One functions in the life of every soul and is the faith born of experience – i.e. Spring will come, tomorrow is a new day, things will work out OK.  The other is a rare faith – it causes things to happen that otherwise would not be.  Seek to be directed, seek the Spirit of God, find comfort, find the Lord’s spirit.

Do not turn away the “still, small voice” of God.  Learn to recognize it.  It will take the hate, envy, strife, etc. from your heart.

Remain unyielding in following God, worthy of His choicest blessings, and prepared so you can receive all that God has to offer you, not only now – but in the eternities to come.

Talk about hope!  🙂

My Church Makes Me Happy!

As I left the Nursery at Church today, I was truly happy!  I thought, “Church makes me happy!”  Not just any church, but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Why?

Today there were lots of reasons.  In Sacrament Meeting the music and talks were wonderful.  They reminded me of the blessings I have, and helped me feel good about wanting to share my happiness with others.  I wish everyone could feel the happiness and joy that I feel.

Sunday School was also great.  We discussed the organization of the Church, and how it came about in an organized, step-by-step way that the Lord had prepared the way for for some time.  We discussed how we can hear His voice today – through reading the scriptures, including the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants, and through our living Prophet and Apostles, who bear testimony the same as the original ones did.

Relief Society is always wonderful.  Meeting with so many other women who have the same desires, beliefs, and goals I do is truly inspirational.  We teach, strengthen, and encourage each other through the good times and the bad times of life.

And one of the most enjoyable parts of the Church is being able to serve, to work with the Lord to further His work, to watch over His children, and all be edified together.

My current calling, or service, is to sing with the Nursery children.  And we had a great time, singing a welcome song and “Do As I’m Doing” while shaking little bottles of colored rice, “I Am Like a Star Shining Brightly” walking around the room holding up yellow, smiling stars, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” holding up animal puppets, “Follow the Prophet” marching around the room holding pictures of our current Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, and “I Love To See the Temple” sitting on their carpet squares and holding pictures of the Denver Temple.  What fun!  How inspirational!  Children are such a blessing!

Yes, my Church makes me happy.  No wonder I love it so much!  🙂
