Encouragement To Husbands and Fathers

This morning I read something quite moving and beautiful, addressed to husbands and fathers, indeed to righteous men everywhere!

As I read I felt I should share it, as I know there are millions of husbands, fathers, and single men young and old, who desire to know what they can do to love and help their families, live good lives, find joy, be prepared for that which is to come, and rejoice in doing so.

This is what I read:

“And now my beloved brethren, I have said these things unto you that I might awaken you to a sense of your duty to God, that ye may walk blameless before him, that ye may walk after the holy order of God, after which ye have been received.

“And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.

“And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works.

“And may the Lord bless you, and keep your garments spotless, that ye may at last be brought to sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the holy prophets who have been ever since the world began, having your garments spotless even as their garments are spotless, in the kingdom of heaven to go no more out.

“And now my beloved brethren, I have spoken these words unto you according to the Spirit which testifieth in me; and my soul doth exceedingly rejoice, because of the exceeding diligence and heed which ye have given unto my word.

“And now, may the peace of God rest upon you, and upon your houses and lands, and upon your flocks and herds, and all that you possess, your women and your children, according to your faith and good works, from this time forth and forever. And thus I have spoken. Amen.”  Alma 7:22-27.

As I read these words in the Book of Mormon, I pictured the ancient prophet, Alma, meeting with the brethren of the Church of Christ in a special Priesthood meeting.  He loved these men and desired to share with them the words of Christ so they would know how to lead good and wholesome lives, enabled to lead their loved ones and friends back to that God who created them.

Similarly, we have modern-day Priesthood meetings, local, regional, and world-wide, to do the very same thing by the prophet today, Thomas S. Monson, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  God still desires that all His children return to Him, and He has provided His organization and teachings to assist all to come unto Him.

What a beautiful plan!

Husbands, fathers, all men:  here is real encouragement for you in your God-given role as providers, protectors, defenders of the faith, guardians of truth and righteousness, seekers of those lost in the mists of darkness and false teachings of our day.  You have greater resources at your disposal than ever before.  Use them wisely and lead Heavenly Father’s children back to Him and enjoy eternal joy and happiness with them forever and ever.  Amen.

Dealing With Stress In Whatever Form

Yesterday I mentioned being reminded that fasting and prayer are excellent sources of strength when you are feeling stressed out.  This brings additional help and guidance from Heavenly Father, additional spiritual power and blessings!

There was also a powerful scripture that was used in Primary on Sunday.

Alma 7:11-12, “And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

“And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.”

When you think about it, this covers a lot of areas!  Jesus suffered all things, so He knows what we are going through.  He suffered not only for the sins of all mankind (and womankind 🙂 ) but also for all our pain and sorrows.  He does know how we feel.  And He knows how to comfort and help us.

For Him to do that all we have to do is turn to Him.  Ask Heavenly Father for help.  Explain what is going on, how we feel, and ask for His help.  He will send His Spirit to comfort us and to enlighten us to see the path we should follow.  He sorrows when we are sorrowful.  He longs to bless and lift us.  He has given us so many blessings.  Thinking of them, counting our blessings, will also ease our burden and help us through life.

If we have done something wrong (sinned) we repent.  Confess them and forsake them.  Try to do better.  Treat others as we should.  Believe in God and Jesus Christ.  Do what is right.

Pray for guidance to handle whatever is stressing us at the moment.  There is light at the end of the tunnel.

And, as the scriptures say, “It came to pass”, not “it came to stay”.  This too shall pass.  We can be happy again!  🙂
