Thank You, Veterans!

As we approach Veterans Day – a day our country has set aside to honor our many and diverse veterans throughout its history – there are remembrances sitting at my desk.  A mug with pictures of eagles, the flag, and the words “Freedom is Not free”, pictures of an eagle flying with a flag, a house displaying the flag, the Statue of Liberty in front of a flag, and a small flag.

Today I also proudly wear my red, white, and blue necklace to show my love and respect for my country, my flag, and especially for the millions who have served them so well!  It is an honor to remember them and their many sacrifices.

I appreciate the freedoms we have and I strive to use them wisely.  I try to instill reverence, patriotism, and love among our citizens and rising generations so all may continue to benefit from the hard-fought efforts of not only our veterans, their families, and loves ones.

Thank you, Veterans!

Flag Day

Today is Flag Day.  When I think of our flag, it is with reverence and with pride.

As a child, I learned the significance and the importance of our flag.  In elementary school we did fun activities like draw pictures of and color our flag, cut out strips of construction paper to make a flag and attach it to a dowel or rod to then proudly wave for all to see.  How thrilling the prospect!

We learned respect for our country’s flag – how to act around the flag, how to treat the flag, and what the flag stood for.  We pledged allegiance to the flag first thing every morning, which taught us to love, and be loyal to, our country.  We had the greatest country in the world!

We had more freedom than any other country on earth.  We learned to appreciate that freedom, and to reach out to others and share our blessings.  We were good people who stood tall, worked hard, had good values, were a friend to others, were brave, and did good to others.

We were strong, and brave, and true.  What a beautiful legacy to leave for posterity so they would be free to choose the best things in life.  🙂

A Prayer For Our Country

Today is President’s Day.  When I was young, we actually had 2 holidays in February, Washington’s birthday and Lincoln’s birthday.  And in school we learned about both these great men and what they did for our country.

Naturally, both were human and not perfect.  But both did incredible things and led the country through incredibly rough times, particularly because we were waging war on our very own soil.  We learned a lot about faith, courage, strength, fortitude, leadership, as well as humility, kindness, compassion, truth, honesty, and unity.  These were men you could emulate!

Today many things have changed, and it seems the country has turned its back on many of these lessons, virtues,  qualities, and values that garnered so much pride, and success for our country.

I pray that we will be unified not divisive, faithful not taunting, humble not prideful, helpful not hurtful, remembering our past as we build a grand and glorious future.  🙂
