When You Do Good, You Feel Good!

“When you do good, you feel good, and that is the Holy Ghost speaking to you. The Holy Ghost is a wonderful companion. He is always there to help you” President Ezra Taft Benson spoke about what the gift of the Holy Ghost will do for us.  “The Holy Ghost helps you choose the right. The Holy Ghost will protect you from evil. He whispers to you in a still, small voice to do right.”  (in Conference Report, Apr. 1989, 103; or Ensign, May 1989, 82).

I know these words to be true for I have seen the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life many, many times.  And when I have done good, made the right choices, I have felt good.

I have seen it in other people’s lives as well.  It doesn’t mean you have no problems, no issues in life.  But it does mean you can feel good, happy, even calm inside – even while experiencing the problems and issues of life.

Try it and see for yourself.  🙂

Did You Experience The Inspiration?

Did you take a moment to check out the wonderful General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over the weekend?  If so, you heard something great and inspiring!

Included were songs by the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, talks by a living Prophet of God, Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ, and other inspired leaders of the Church.

You would have felt, as did I, stirring messages of hope, happiness, and peace in spite of the turmoil that is present in the world today.  The gospel light of Christ shines through it all, and is there for us to grasp and follow.

Where there is the light of Christ, there can be no darkness!

If you missed it, or would like to experience more of it, you can go to lds.org and see and hear the inspiring messages whenever you want.

God did not leave us alone, nor without resources.  He has provided everything that is needed to be able to live a happy and fulfilling life now, and to return to live with Him in the eternities.

Try it and see for yourself.  🙂

My Church Makes Me Happy!

As I left the Nursery at Church today, I was truly happy!  I thought, “Church makes me happy!”  Not just any church, but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Why?

Today there were lots of reasons.  In Sacrament Meeting the music and talks were wonderful.  They reminded me of the blessings I have, and helped me feel good about wanting to share my happiness with others.  I wish everyone could feel the happiness and joy that I feel.

Sunday School was also great.  We discussed the organization of the Church, and how it came about in an organized, step-by-step way that the Lord had prepared the way for for some time.  We discussed how we can hear His voice today – through reading the scriptures, including the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants, and through our living Prophet and Apostles, who bear testimony the same as the original ones did.

Relief Society is always wonderful.  Meeting with so many other women who have the same desires, beliefs, and goals I do is truly inspirational.  We teach, strengthen, and encourage each other through the good times and the bad times of life.

And one of the most enjoyable parts of the Church is being able to serve, to work with the Lord to further His work, to watch over His children, and all be edified together.

My current calling, or service, is to sing with the Nursery children.  And we had a great time, singing a welcome song and “Do As I’m Doing” while shaking little bottles of colored rice, “I Am Like a Star Shining Brightly” walking around the room holding up yellow, smiling stars, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” holding up animal puppets, “Follow the Prophet” marching around the room holding pictures of our current Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, and “I Love To See the Temple” sitting on their carpet squares and holding pictures of the Denver Temple.  What fun!  How inspirational!  Children are such a blessing!

Yes, my Church makes me happy.  No wonder I love it so much!  🙂

This is Why I Go To Church

Today at church the leaders of our Ward Council spoke.  It was a wonderful and inspiring meeting (as they usually are).

The thought that stayed with me the most is that God is always there to help us with the answers.  He knows when we are struggling with something.  We may have put a lot of time, effort, thought, even money or counseling into it, but it persists in being an issue.

If we keep trying, and include Heavenly Father, He will guide us to the answer, or might guide the answer to us.

The speaker gave an example of a leader in the church who was sent to speak at a Stake Conference.  When he arrived, the Stake President asked him if he had a few minutes to talk with a brother in the Stake who was really struggling to overcome his smoking addiction, but had not been successful no matter what, or how hard, he had tried.

So the leader spoke with this brother.  The leader was able to witness to this brother that God knows and loves him, that God is aware of the struggles the brother has, and that God will help him and be with him through this process as he continues to try.  He was able to give this man hope.

Father in Heaven knows us.  He loves us and wants us to succeed in returning to Him and in bringing our families and loved ones with us as well.  He loves you individually – no matter who you are, where you are, what you have done, or who your family is.  Ask for His help and you will find a way.  🙂

An Extra Special Christmas Season

For an extra special Christmas season this year, consider joining along in the “Light the world. In 25 ways. Over 25 days” initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ primary organization.  They have put together suggestions of things that children can do daily to celebrate and share the Spirit of Christmas in December.  Check it out at Mormon.org/downloads.

And of course, teens and adults can participate as well!

“‘We are reminding children that Jesus Christ is the light of the world,’ said Sister Joy D. Jones, Primary General President. By participating in the “Light the World” initiative, children can do the things that help them not only come to know, but also emulate, the Savior.

“’We love the children,’ she said. ‘We have faith in them to be lights. We see their potential and it is grand.’…

“Serving others is ‘not a burden, but a way of life,’ explained Sister Jones, noting that she hopes this campaign will help families realize ‘we don’t do anything without Him.’

“‘When children share their light, they give a beautiful Christmas gift, said Sister Bingham, First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency. ‘You can give a Christmas gift of service—the most powerful gift you can give.’

“Sister Cordon said children can be involved in the campaign in simple ways without spending money. As they do, their hearts will change and they will have different expectations of Christmas; instead of wondering what they will get this year they will say, ‘What are we going to do for someone else today?’

“’We need to bring the Savior into our hearts and into our families,’ she said….’We are all trying to walk the same path that He walked,’ added Sister Cordon.  ‘We are trying to see others the way He sees them,’ said Sister Jones….finding ways to light the world will not be hard.  ‘There are so many sad people in the world.’

“‘These things come natural to children, who are so full of love and compassion,’ said Sister Bingham.”

How about it, are you game?  🙂

Going to Church is a Necessity

I realized today that going to church is a necessity for me.  It is a need that I have!

With the eventful month we’ve had, I’ve only gone 2 of the 5 Sundays this month.  That, coupled with all the stuff going on in my life, Beloved hubby’s life, my family’s life, and events in the our country as well as the world, have all converged to throw my emotional balance out of whack.

Now mind you, church is not the only thing that helps keep me sane and stable.  My daily reading of the scriptures, especially right now reading the Book of Mormon, gives me regular spiritual sustenance, and talking with Father in Heaven many times every day definitely buoys me up.

But going to church and being with like-minded people who believe as I do and are also trying to live the values we know to be true feeds not only my spirit but my emotional side as well.  There is a reason that Heavenly Father told His people to meet together oft:

“And … they did walk after the commandments which they had received from their Lord and their God, continuing in fasting and prayer, and in meeting together oft both to pray and to hear the word of the Lord.” 4 Nephi 1:12 (emphasis added).

Meeting together helps us strengthen each other, learn more about God and Jesus Christ, and remember the way to live to be truly happy.  We gather courage and fortitude for doing what is right, and we see more clearly the ways to avoid sin and its destructive consequences.

Going to church calms my heart, brightens my way in life, establishes friendships, teaches me new ways to deal with my trials, shows me that others face similar situations and have overcome them, and lets me bask in the heavenly light of Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Is it any wonder that going to church is one of my needs?  🙂
