When You Do Good, You Feel Good!

“When you do good, you feel good, and that is the Holy Ghost speaking to you. The Holy Ghost is a wonderful companion. He is always there to help you” President Ezra Taft Benson spoke about what the gift of the Holy Ghost will do for us.  “The Holy Ghost helps you choose the right. The Holy Ghost will protect you from evil. He whispers to you in a still, small voice to do right.”  (in Conference Report, Apr. 1989, 103; or Ensign, May 1989, 82).

I know these words to be true for I have seen the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life many, many times.  And when I have done good, made the right choices, I have felt good.

I have seen it in other people’s lives as well.  It doesn’t mean you have no problems, no issues in life.  But it does mean you can feel good, happy, even calm inside – even while experiencing the problems and issues of life.

Try it and see for yourself.  🙂

An Extra Special Christmas Season

For an extra special Christmas season this year, consider joining along in the “Light the world. In 25 ways. Over 25 days” initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ primary organization.  They have put together suggestions of things that children can do daily to celebrate and share the Spirit of Christmas in December.  Check it out at Mormon.org/downloads.

And of course, teens and adults can participate as well!

“‘We are reminding children that Jesus Christ is the light of the world,’ said Sister Joy D. Jones, Primary General President. By participating in the “Light the World” initiative, children can do the things that help them not only come to know, but also emulate, the Savior.

“’We love the children,’ she said. ‘We have faith in them to be lights. We see their potential and it is grand.’…

“Serving others is ‘not a burden, but a way of life,’ explained Sister Jones, noting that she hopes this campaign will help families realize ‘we don’t do anything without Him.’

“‘When children share their light, they give a beautiful Christmas gift, said Sister Bingham, First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency. ‘You can give a Christmas gift of service—the most powerful gift you can give.’

“Sister Cordon said children can be involved in the campaign in simple ways without spending money. As they do, their hearts will change and they will have different expectations of Christmas; instead of wondering what they will get this year they will say, ‘What are we going to do for someone else today?’

“’We need to bring the Savior into our hearts and into our families,’ she said….’We are all trying to walk the same path that He walked,’ added Sister Cordon.  ‘We are trying to see others the way He sees them,’ said Sister Jones….finding ways to light the world will not be hard.  ‘There are so many sad people in the world.’

“‘These things come natural to children, who are so full of love and compassion,’ said Sister Bingham.”

How about it, are you game?  🙂

Eventful Month

It’s been a very full and eventful month.  Illness, hospitalizations, roofing, worries, team building, service, LDS General Conference, temple dedication, priesthood blessings, sharing my thoughts of Sacred, and family have all been a huge part of my life this month!

Through it all, and because of it, I have been reminded of the great blessings I enjoy because of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Through the sorrow, the fatigue, the worry, the pain, and the suffering of myself and others the light of Christ has shown through and comforted, lifted, and calmed with its infinite power to shine forth and bless.

And through the fun, the thoughtfulness, the service, and the sacred and spiritual moments the light of Christ has increased the joy, hopefulness, love, and relationships with Heavenly Father’s great gift that increases our abilities, aptitudes, sensitivities, and power.

It has been quite a month of ups and downs.  And of rejoicing in, and recognition of, the marvelous gifts and power of a loving and eternal Father in Heaven, Who has seen us through it all.  How blessed I am for my relationship with Him, and my knowledge of who He is.  🙂

Singing With the Nursery

You remember I said that one of my callings (jobs) at church is Nursery Music Director?  Yesterday the fun began!

We have 2 nurseries now, the older kids are meeting separately from the younger ones.  So I visited the older ones first.

They were seated around a little table in their cute little chairs.  I sat down and was introduced to them as Sister Music.  Cute, huh?  🙂

The previous “Sister Music” had gone to great pains to have a box of items to help them with their singing:

  • Little empty spice bottles filled with an inch of very colorful little stones that they can shake in time to the music.  We sang “Hello, Hello”, “Do As I’m Doing”, and “Fun To Do”, while shaking those little bottles.
  • Tongue depressor sticks with a colorful “frowny” face attached to one end and a “smiley” face to the opposite end, to turn over while we sing “If You Chance to Meet a Frown”.
  • The outline of our Denver temple drawn on a circle attached to a popsicle stick, to hold while they sing “I Love To See The Temple”.
  • Pictures of our Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, that they can hold as they march around the room singing, “Follow the Prophet”.
  • Family members on popsicle sticks for them to hold up as they sing “Happy Family”.

So everything was already prepared for me, and all I had to do was sing and play with them!

15 minutes went by pretty quickly, then off I was with my “magic music box” to the younger kids.

They were more wiggly, but were sitting on their little carpet pieces most of the time.  They didn’t sing as much, but they loved holding the items, and marching around the room.  There were 2 teachers, and a couple moms and a dad in there too.

Again, we had great fun and the time was over before we knew it.  There is one thing though…

I do have some homework.

The sing a song about rolling your arms and getting ready for the prayer right before the closing prayer.

I need to learn it.  🙂

(and I thought I was done posting to my Primary is Fun category!)

Want To Feel Better?

You don’t even have to feel down.  You don’t HAVE to be wondering what’s wrong in your life.  No need to be worried about the state society and the world are in.

Whether you are on top of the world or not.

You will always feel better when you tune in to the LDS semi-annual, worldwide General Conference!  And it starts in about 2 hours.  But…

In the meantime, or anytime, you can go and watch previous conferences and feel the same uplifting and joyful feelings that you do when you watch it happen live.

This is another great blessing we have available to us from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons).  It is proof that God, your Heavenly Father, loves you and all His children and does not leave us to wander alone and unsure through life.

In fact, it is quite the opposite.  It is a feast for the soul!  A veritable smorgasbord of hope, joy, peace, comfort, and love that will always leave you a better person that before.  Guaranteed.

God loves His children and has given us so much good in the world.  And today we have more goodness and happiness to surround ourselves with than any other time throughout the history of the world!  Although we live in a tough time in many ways, we also live in the best of times in more ways.

“How?” you may ask.

Come and see.  You can participate at any time.  Try it and see.  🙂

Primary – The Great Equalizer!

Primary never ceases to amaze me.  I recently realized that Primary is the great equalizer!

As we go about our daily lives, we find that we are all different.  We have various talents, interests, strengths, opinions, biases, and thoughts.  At times it seems there is no reconciliation whatsoever, because try as we might, we can still find ourselves on opposite sides and with no idea why others don’t see things as we do!

Enter, Primary.

Something truly amazing happens when people start serving in Primary.  They still have various talents, interests, strengths, opinions, biases, and thoughts, but now they also have something in common.

They are teaching children about their Father in Heaven and His plan of happiness.

Viola’!  Instantly their various talents, interests, strengths, opinions, biases, and thoughts meld together into one – one purpose, one goal, one mind, one heart.

They are all suddenly friends, and fellow-servants with Christ, using their various talents, interests, strengths, opinions, biases, and thoughts for a higher purpose.  The outcome of this metamorphosis is astonishing!

People who used to be at odds with each other suddenly become good friends.  They now see that they are not so very different after all, in fact, they have quite a lot in common.  And they discover, perhaps to their surprise, that that which makes us the same far outweighs that which makes us different.

Thank you, Father in Heaven, for Primary – the great equalizer!  🙂
